Household Hazardous Waste 2023
Free Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event!
Riverside County operates temporary HHW events throughout the year at various locations that provide residents a FREE and environmentally safe way to properly dispose of and recycle HHW. The next HHW Collection Event in La Quinta will be on Saturday, February 25, 2023, in the City Hall South Parking Lot. This FREE event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Here are examples of Acceptable and Unacceptable Items for the HHW collection event:

- Latex and Oil-Based Paint
- Fluorescent Tubes and Bulbs
- Pesticides and Garden Chemicals
- Household Cleaners and Aerosol Cans
- BBQ & Camp Size Propane
- Auto and Household Batteries
- Pool Chlorine
- TVs / Computers / Electronic Devices
- Sharps and Unused Medication (except controlled substances)

- Government, Business, Non-Profit, or Out-of-County Hazardous Waste
- Ammunition and Explosives
- Controlled Substances
- Infectious Waste (except Sharps)
- Asbestos
- Radioactive Material (except smoke detectors)
- Remediation Material
- Containers larger than 5 gallons or weighing more than 50 pounds
- Appliances / Tires / Trash
- Compressed Gas Cylinders greater than 40 pounds
