The Coachella Valley has long had a need for a transportation route and recreational pathway that will provide a safer, healthy alternative to Highway 111. Led by the Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG), CV Link is an award-winning plan to provide that alternative, allowing residents and tourists alike the ability to bike, walk, or take a low–speed electric vehicle for activities such as shopping, work, restaurant, golf, tennis, and other activities.

CV Link will connect our valley with a safer 40-mile alternative transportation and recreational corridor along the Whitewater River for bicyclists, pedestrians, and low-speed electric vehicles. It will also provide a safer route for kids to go to school and serve as a meeting place for community activities and events.

CV Link will:

  • Provide a safe route to schools and valley attractions

  • Improve air quality

  • Enable healthier lifestyles and communities

  • Spur economic innovation

  • Create jobs

  • Increase tourism

  • Attract national recognition and grant funding

Current Progress

An extensive amount of work has been done on the main pathway through La Quinta, and work has started on various connectors, including at Washington Street. In December, lights and benches were installed at the promontory access point and bridge over the La Quinta stormwater channel. The promontory point, where CV Link connects the cities of La Quinta and Indio, near Jefferson Street, is expected to open summer 2024.

CV Link Update

The main pathway through La Quinta runs about 2 miles along the south side of the Coachella Valley stormwater channel (also known as the Whitewater River) from Washington Street to Jefferson Street. When completed it will provide a connection to the Arts and Music Line, which will come down the channel to Avenue 48 and connect La Quinta to the cities of Indio and Coachella.

There are three CV Link segments open to ride:

  1. The first segment of CV Link runs 2.3 miles between Ramon Road in Cathedral City and Vista Chino in Palm Springs.

  2. The second segment of CV Link open is approximately 1 mile and runs adjacent to Demuth Park in Palm Springs.

  3. The third segment of CV Link open is on-street in the City of Palm Desert and consists of 3.5 miles running from the Bump n’ Grind trail head to the College of the Desert and ultimately ending at the wash near Deep Canyon Road.

Other segments are being constructed as right-of-way is available.
