Welcome to the La Quinta Police Department!
The La Quinta Police Department is contracted through and serviced by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and is based out of the Thermal Station in Thermal. The Thermal Station is located about 10 miles east of La Quinta City Hall and serves the eastern half of the Coachella Valley.
The La Quinta Police Department is dedicated to the protection, safety, and well-being of its citizens, and the preservation of our community's quality of life.
Chief of Police
Captain Andres "Andy" Martinez
Captain Martinez was promoted to his current rank in November 2023 and began commanding the Thermal Sheriff's Station, as well as serving as the La Quinta Chief of Police.
Captain Martinez has been with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department for 22 years. He was first assigned to the Indio Station, now Thermal Station, where he worked patrol operations in the cities of La Quinta, Coachella, and unincorporated areas of the eastern Coachella Valley. During his career, he has worked on the Community Action Team, Coachella Valley Violent Crimes Gang Task Force, Investigations Division, and has served as an Administrative Sergeant and Investigations Bureau Supervisor.
His previous assignment was as a Lieutenant for the City of La Quinta where he oversaw and managed law enforcement services, while finding opportunities to enhance the delivery, improve the quality of life for City residents and visitors, and reduce crime.

Non-Emergency or to Report a Crime:

What is a non-emergency? A non-emergency is classified as a valid police matter that does not constitute immediate attention. A non-emergency line should be utilized when an immediate dispatch is not required. Some examples that would qualify as a non-emergency include; when time has elapsed since the reported incident has occurred, the suspect of a crime has already fled the scene, or when calling to report vandalism. Calling the 911 emergency line will not result in a faster response time, the line is only intended for emergency situations.
