Important Updates for STVRs:
Section 3.25.055 of the La Quinta Municipal Code (LQMC) imposes a permanent ban on new STVR permits in the General and Primary permit categories.
General and Primary STVR permits can only be issued to properties located within a few exempt areas. View the list of exempt areas within the City or you can contact staff at VacationLQ@LaQuintaCA.gov to verify if your property is within an exempt area and eligible for a new STVR permit.
Effective January 4, 2024, STVR Code updates went into effect allowing Homeshare STVR permits and Large Lot Qualified and Certified to be exempt from the ban on the issuance of new STVR permits.
Homeshare STVR permits are exempt from the ban on the issuance of new STVR permits currently in effect under Section 3.25.055 of the LQMC. Homeshare permits REQUIRE the owner(s) to occupy the STVR property throughout the visitor's stay. To start the application process, please contact STVR staff at VacationLQ@LaQuintaCA.gov and include a copy of your grant deed for property ownership verification.
Large Lot Qualified and Certified are large lots consisting of a single parcel of 25,000 sq. ft or more are now eligible to apply for an exemption from the ban on the issuance of new STVR permits, if certain criteria are met (pursuant to Section 3.25.057 of the LQMC) to be considered by Counil at a Public Hearing; and if approved, may apply to obtain a new STVR permit. To start the application process, please contact STVR staff at VacationLQ@LaQuintaCA.gov and include a copy of your grant deed for property ownership verification.
