Construction & Demolition (C&D) Debris Management Plan
The California Green Building Standards Code (CAL Green) Section 5.408 mandates that all new building construction develop a waste management plan that includes diversion of at least 65% of construction and demolition material from landfills, through recycling or reuse.
Burrtec is the only authorized hauler in La Quinta and they have an established C&D Waste Diversion Program. Ensure that your contractor is aware of this program and that they review Burrtec's requirements for C&D Debris Management.

Glass bottles and jars (no drinking glasses)
Plastic bottles, jugs, and containers numbered 1-7 (look for recycle symbol)

Mandatory Commercial Organics Recycling (AB 1826)
This state law requires businesses, and multi-family complexes with 5 or more units, that generate two (2) or more cubic yards of solid waste per week to arrange for organic waste collection services. Organic waste includes food waste, food-soiled paper products, landscape waste, and green waste.

AB 1826 Exemption or Compliance Verification Report
Certain businesses may be exempt from the AB 1826 Mandatory Commercial Organics Recycling law if:
De Minimis - there is insufficient space for storage or service of Burrtec-provided containers
Physical Space - the amount of organic waste generated per week is less than 1/2 a cubic yard

Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SB 1383)
Effective January 1, 2022, all California businesses were required to start separating organic waste from other trash and non-organic recyclables and participate in an organics collection program. Burrtec continues working with the City to provide programs for businesses to comply with the requirements of this legislation.
Additionally, large food generators such as grocery stores and wholesale food distributors must facilitate a food rescue program that creates a 20% increase in the recovery of edible food.
