Measure A Update – November 8, 2022 Election:
The La Quinta qualified voters did not approve Measure A – a citizen driven ballot initiative proposing to phase-out and permanently ban “non-hosted short-term vacation rentals” (STVRs), as defined, in non-exempt areas of the City of La Quinta by December 31, 2024.
Since Measure A did not pass, Chapter 3.25 of the La Quinta Municipal Code (LQMC) remains in effect, including the permanent ban on the issuance of new STVR permits in non-exempt areas pursuant to Section 3.25.055 of the LQMC.
Measure A Ballot Initiative
Measure A is a proposed phase-out and ban of non-hosted Short-Term Vacation Rentals (STVRs) throughout the City of La Quinta, except those in exempt areas. Measure A qualified for and was placed on the ballot by a citizen-driven initiative petition and submitted to the electorate of the City of La Quinta for the next General Municipal Election.

Definition of Non-Hosted STVR:
Type of STVR whereby the owner rents an STVR unit, for compensation, for periods of thirty (30) consecutive calendar days or less, while the owner does not live on-site or in the dwelling unit, throughout the occupant's stay.

Criteria for STVR Exempt Areas:

Residential dwelling within a residential project located in the CT Tourist Commercial District zone

Residential dwelling within a residential project located in the VC Village Commercial District zone

Residential dwelling within a residential project subject to a development agreement with the City, in which non-hosted STVRs are a permitted use

Residential dwelling within the area covered by the SilverRock Resort Specific Plan
-
Residential dwelling located adjacent to the CT Tourist Commercial District zone, and within the following boundaries: West of Avenida Obregon, South of Avenida Fernando, East of Calle Mazatlan, and North of the Southern boundary for the La Quinta Tennis Villas/Tennis Condos of the La Quinta Resort Specific Plan
